Comments:
A group of explorers go in search of the lost underwater city in this animated, action-adventure epic. Atlantis is the first 70 mm film since 1985´s Black Cauldron. One of the big wigs at Disney hated the project because it was a straight action-adventure, with no songs. Guys fight monsters underground. It's sort of a 1914/World War One-looking expedition to find Atlantis and rape it of its energy source. It's 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea meets Journey To The Center Of The Earth.
A 60% completed work-in-progress version of Atlantis was screened for Peter Schnider and Tom Schumacher in April 2000. Both Schnider and Schumacher gave the film a big thumbs up and were so impressed by what the production team had accomplished they approved three more sequences to go into production right away for the movie.
John Pomeroy is the head animator on the lead character Milo Tatcher, voiced by Michael J. Fox. He is putting together an incredible team of animators including two rising stars, Oliver Thomas (Firebird Suite--Fantasia 2000) and Robb Pratt (Pocahontas, Fantasia 2000, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Tarzan).
Ricardo Delgado (Age of Reptiles) has contributed with preproduction artwork for the movie.

Hellboy creator Mike Mignola has been production designer for Atlantis. They approached me because they wanted to do the film in my style. Whether it's going to happen or not, I don't know. Mignola is a definate influence on the production (not only character design but in mise en scene and layout). I did some character designs for the city, for the natives, except most of it's been Disney-ized. They really wanted his official hand in the project, though.
Of what I saw, the production is gonna be one for the books!! --Anonymous
